Backend Developer · PHP · Laravel · APIs & integrations

Samriddhi Gurung

I build the parts of software people don't see: APIs, authentication, integrations and the data underneath.

I'm a backend developer based in Pokhara, Nepal, working mainly with PHP and Laravel. I was backend lead on ResQNet, an animal rescue and adoption platform that is live in production, and I continue to maintain it: deploying updates, investigating issues and fixing defects.

How I work

I like to understand why something works, not only that it does. When I meet an unfamiliar piece of technology, such as a WebSocket server, a payment gateway's verification step or an email-authentication record, I keep reading past the quick-start until its behaviour makes sense. That habit has been most useful on ResQNet, where a payment that isn't verified on the server, or two organisations claiming the same rescue case at once, has real consequences.

Right now my specialisation is PHP and Laravel: designing and securing REST APIs, integrating third-party services, working with relational databases, testing, and keeping a live platform healthy through CI/CD and cloud hosting. Laravel is where my experience is deepest today, but I treat it as a way into backend engineering in general (HTTP, data modelling, deployment, debugging production) rather than as the boundary of what I work on.

I'm most interested in reliable backend systems, the integrations that connect them, and practical engineering problems in software that real people depend on.

What I work with

Grouped by how central each area is to my work. Core skills are the ones I've used in production on ResQNet and during my internship.

Core // backend

  • Backend development Laravel 11 · REST API design · Eloquent ORM · MVC architecture · Repository Pattern · Database migrations · Artisan commands
  • Authentication & integrations Laravel Sanctum · Role-based access control · Laravel Reverb / WebSockets · Firebase Cloud Messaging · Khalti API
  • Databases MySQL · MariaDB · Relational database design · ER diagrams · UML diagrams
  • Programming PHP 8.2+ · SQL · JavaScript

Supporting // around the backend

  • Testing & debugging PHPUnit · Pest · Feature & integration testing · Exception handling · N+1 query optimisation · Postman
  • Tools & DevOps Git & GitHub · Feature-branch workflows · CircleCI · Docker · Heroku · Linux · DNS · SMTP · DMARC
  • Frontend Bootstrap · AdminLTE · Tailwind CSS Used for admin panels and dashboards. Backend is my focus, and I've used AI coding agents for parts of this frontend work.
  • AI-assisted development Claude Code · Antigravity

ResQNet

Animal rescue, adoption, donation and health-management platform

A Laravel backend that serves a React Native (Expo) mobile app for the public and web dashboards for rescue organisations and administrators. People report injured animals, apply to adopt and donate; organisations claim rescue cases, dispatch their teams and keep health records for the animals in their care.

  • Versioned REST API (api/v1) for the mobile app, with Sanctum token authentication
  • Role-based access for public users, organisations and super admins using Spatie Permission and policies
  • Real-time updates for rescue cases and adoptions over Laravel Reverb WebSockets
  • Integrations: Khalti donations verified on the server, Firebase Cloud Messaging, transactional email
  • CircleCI runs the test suite against MySQL, then deploys to Heroku from main

My role

Backend lead in a three-member team: API design, authentication, integrations, database, CI/CD, deployment and ongoing maintenance.

Stack

  • Laravel 11
  • PHP 8.2
  • MySQL
  • Sanctum
  • Spatie Permission
  • Spatie MediaLibrary
  • Laravel Reverb
  • FCM
  • Khalti
  • CircleCI
  • Heroku
  • React Native (Expo)

Linktopia

Project environment and credential manager

A developer tool for keeping a project's URLs and credentials organised across development, staging and production. I built it during my internship as a learning project in structured Laravel development: database relationships, CRUD and clean backend organisation.

  • Laravel
  • PHP
  • Eloquent relationships
  • CRUD

Features

  • Individual project profiles
  • Environment-specific URLs and credentials
  • Project details and tags
  • Activity logs

Where I've worked

  • Planning & collaboration

    • Planned features with ER and UML diagrams before writing code.
    • Worked in a collaborative Git workflow: feature branches, QA review, then merge into main.
  • Data layer

    • Built models, migrations and pivot tables for many-to-many relationships with Eloquent.
    • Identified and resolved N+1 query problems.
    • Introduced the Repository Pattern to remove duplicated data-access logic.
  • Security & reliability

    • Implemented OTP email verification and account lockout after repeated failed logins.
    • Wrapped database operations in try/catch exception handling.
    • Wrote feature tests.
  • Tooling & automation

    • Wrote custom Artisan commands to automate user provisioning and CRUD file generation.
    • Used AI tools, including Antigravity, during development and testing.
    • Built Linktopia, a project environment and credential manager.
